Mary Katherine Cross

Mary Katherine Newsome Cross, 75, of Doc McCulloch Road, died Monday, October 10, 2016, at Hinkle Hospice House following a period of declining health.   The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Macedonia United Methodist Church, where she attended, with the Rev. Tammy Talbert officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service and other times at the home of her son, Terry.   Mrs. Cross was born May 2, 1941, in Davidson County, to Charlie Elmer Newsome and Lela Viola Hoffner Newsome. She had worked at Stanley Furniture. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Cross Jr. who died May 1998; 11 siblings; and a grandson, Chad Newsome.   Surviving are sons, Randy Lee Newsome and wife Angel of Southmont, Ronald Dale Cross of the home, and Terry June Cross and husband James of Lexington; daughters, Vickie Guffey Adams and husband Chris and Becky Cross Leonard and husband Ray, both of Southmont; and grandchildren, Jesse Ray Leonard, Emma Rose Leonard, Jason Kirkus, Brandy Smith, and Tamara Newsome; and step-grandchildren, Angela Phillips, Lance Smith, Lee Smith and Annie Mae Carter.   In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
