Mary was born on September 24, 1932, in Davidson County, to the late Arnold Voyd Hinkle and Gladys Hinkle Hinkle. She worked throughout her life, finishing at Mrs. Hanes’ Moravian Cookies, before devoting her days to watching her grandchildren.
She found joy in simple pleasures by working with her hands, tacking quilts and serving others by cooking delicious meals. Everyone knew her by her scratch cooking and always being the first to bring over food when others were in need. Her selfless spirit and servant’s heart will remain through her family’s deeds.
Mary adored her family and was a dutiful wife to her late husband of more than fifty years, a strong mother for her children, and a caring grandmother for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she is reunited in death with her husband, Estel Dobey; son, Larry Dobey; and brother, Paul Hinkle.
Left to carry on her legacy are her children, Kent Dobey (Sharon), of Lexington; Rita D. Gebe (Jack), of Lexington, and Sandy Weisner (Jeff), of Lexington; siblings, Gene Hinkle, Ray Hinkle (Chandra), and Shirley Younts; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to those at Alderwood Hospice who cared for Mary during her time there.
Along with flowers, donations may be directed to Alderwood Hospice (Hospice of Davidson County), 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
