Mary Dowell

Mary Barbara Williams Dowell, 97, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, at Lexington Medical Center.

Mary was born on October 30, 1928, in Ringgold, Georgia, to the late Jesse Eugene Williams and Iris Huskey Williams. She lived a long and meaningful life devoted to her family and her work. Mary was employed by The University of Alaska, where she dedicated many years of service before her retirement.

A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mary found her greatest joy in her family. She will be remembered for her strength, kindness, and the lasting legacy she leaves behind through generations.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Perry Laning Dowell, Jr., and her daughter, Theresa Elizabeth Mitchell.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Thomas Dowell, Michael Dowell, Patrick Dowell, and Kenneth Dowell (Debra); her daughter, Barbara Farthing (Dale); as well as 23 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.

A service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Lexington Medical Center for the care and compassion shown to Mary during her final days.
