Mary Elizabeth Kearns Smith

Mary Elizabeth Kearns Smith, 85, of Linwood-Southmont Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after an illness of three weeks. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Second Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, by the Revs. Bea Edwards Copeland and Morris Hollifield. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 2, 1920, in Davidson County to Marvin Lee Kearns and Ida Victoria Hedrick Kearns. She was a homemaker. Her first husband, Numie Morris, preceded her in death, and her second husband, Paul Smith, died Nov. 3, 1992. Her son, Donald Franklin Morris, also preceded her in death. Surviving are two sons, Randy Paul Smith and his wife, Lynn, and Bobby Smith and his wife, Luann, all of Linwood; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Hinkle of Linwood; four grandchildren, Zach Smith and his wife, Tabitha, Erin Smith, Melissa Blackwell and Debbie Morris; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, M.L. Kearns Jr. and his wife, Virginia, of Lexington. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, and other times at the home of her son, Randy Smith, at 5675 Linwood-Southmont Road, Linwood.
