Mary Ellen Griffin Gordon, 75 passed away early Thursday morning, March 26, 2015 at Pine Ridge Health and Rehabilitation in Thomasville.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Midway United Methodist Church with Pastor John Woods officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the church cemetery. A visitation will follow the celebration of life.
Mary Ellen was born March 8, 1940 in Cabarrus County to Joseph Leonard Griffin and Kathleen Mowrer Griffin. She was a retired school teacher with Winston-Salem and Forsyth County Schools with 34 years at Latham Elementary School. Mary Ellen was a member of Midway United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard Edsel (Ed) Gordon (May, 2014); a brother, David Wayne Griffin and step-son Gene Gordon and son-in-law Ben Philpott.
Surviving children are, Lynn Gordon Weaver (Jeff); Deirdre Gordon Philpott; Mark Leonard Gordon; sisters, Dorothy Elaine Blackwelder, Patricia Keller Reed; sister-in-law, Geraldine Griffin; grandchildren, Stephen Weaver (Cassie), Joshua Weaver; grandchildren Jennifer Crow (Gary), Whitney Curry (Bradley), Matthew Gordon, and Harry Philpott, great-grandchildren, Karissa Ellis, Dylan Ellis, Kason Curry and Reece Curry.
