Mary Word Garrett

Mary Word Garrett (Murr) 74, of Floydada TX passed Saturday, June 16, 2018. She was born January 3, 1944 to Dorothy Cousin Word and James Havens Word. The family will receive friends at 10:00am on Saturday June 23rd at the First United Methodist Church. The memorial service will follow at 11:00am. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy and James Word. Her sisters Ann Carr and Beth Atkinson. Nephew David Carr. Surviving is her son Greg Garrett Emy Garrett(wife). Daughter Katee Garrett Spry. Grandchildren Logan Connor, Nikki Spry, Emy Spry, Mac Calderone, Kinsey Calderone, Brooks Calderone, Ashley Weekly, Sarah Perrine and one great grandchild that is on the way. Niece Sandy Carr. Nephews Chase Carr, Jimmy Arnold and Jay Arnold. Great nieces Charlotte and Sasha Carr. Great nephew Malcom Carr. Mary was a substitute teacher in Lexington for 12 years. She moved to Floydada TX and taught school for 6. She also taught GED classes at the prison for 5 years. Mary volunteered at Christian Women’s Job Core that helped women find jobs. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Floydada TX. She loved going to church, planting flowers, reading but most importantly she loved her family. In lieu of flowers she requested memorials be made to the First United Methodist Youth Group.
