Mary Ivan Hedrick Griffin

Mary Ivan Hedrick Griffin, 86, of Hillcrest Drive, died Sunday, September 7, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center, following a brief illness. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at Bethany United Methodist Church, where she was a member, by the Rev. Allan Van Meter. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Griffin was born February 15, 1922, in Davidson County, to Harvey Hedrick and Viola Tysinger Hedrick. She was a graduate of Davis Townsend High School and attended Greensboro Women’s College; retired from Davidson County Department of Social Services, and was the first female assistant clerk of court in Davidson County. Mrs. Griffin was also active in the Republican Party. She was married to Durante Avan Griffin Sr. who died in 2004. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Griffin; and a brother, M.W. Hedrick. Surviving are two sons, Richard Griffin and wife, Janice, of Thomasville, and Durante Griffin and wife, Kathron, of Greensboro; six grandchildren, Robbie Griffin, Matthew Griffin, both of Greensboro, Josh Griffin, Daniel Griffin, Adam Griffin, all of Lexington, and Amy Pierce of Thomasville; brother, Dr. R.E. Hedrick of Kernersville; and sister, Rachel Hedrick Hunt of Chesapeake, Va. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the church fellowship hall.
