Mary Ellen Burkhart Heitman, age 89 of Becks Church Road, Lexington passed away Thursday night at Hinkle Hospice House.
Funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Monday at Grace Missionary Alliance Church with Pastor’s Richard Barker and Clyde Akers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Sunday.
Mary was born in Davidson County, November 11, 1923 to Jacob Hiram and Quinnie Elizabeth Younts Burkhart. She was a former employee of Siceloff and S & M Manufacturing. Co-founder and charter member of Grace Missionary Alliance Church where she taught Sunday School and held other positions. In 1979 she and her late husband Vernon Heitman went into the mission field as missionary associate builders for the Alliance, in Gabon and Ivory Coast of Africa where they spent 3 years. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a preceded in death by her parents; husband of 67 years, Vernon Mock Heitman, May 13, 2013; sisters, Savannah Burkhart and Lystra Workman; brothers, Gilbert, Earl and Arvil Burkhart
She is survived by daughters, Pam Hall (John), Pat Norman (Ray); grandchildren, Joni Norman (Barry), Deric Hall (Jennifer), Andrea Leonard (Stephen); great-grandchildren; Emily Davis (Dustin), Leighann Waldroup, Lauren Norman, Macie Hall, Caleb Hall and Kelby Leonard; great-great-grandson; Noah Davis; sister-in-laws, Mary Helen Burkhart, Myrtle Everhart, Shirley Rhodes and Vernell Sutherland; brother-in-laws, Rodney Heitman and Roby Floyd.
