Mary Hill Koontz, 86, formerly of the Paul' s Chapel community, died Saturday morning, Oct. 20, 2007, at Alston Brook where she was currently a resident.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Paul' s Chapel United Church of Christ, with the Rev. David Ambroso and the Rev. Jimmy Norred officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Koontz was born on June 15, 1921, in Davidson County to Thurston Maine Hill and Ollie Jane Hill. A graduate of Welcome School and Jones Business School in High Point, she worked 15 years as the executive secretary of the Lexington Retail Merchants Association and was employed at Four Speed Auto Parts in Welcome for the past 30 years. She was a charter member of Paul' s Chapel United Church of Christ, where she was a member of the Women' s Bible Class and formerly taught classes in the children' s department. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James C. "J.C." Koontz Sr.; two brothers, Clifford Hill and Ivan Hill; and four sisters, Thelma H. Leonard, Treva H. Mock, Euphrozene H. Leonard and Inez H. Craver.
Mrs. Koontz is survived by a son, James C. Koontz Jr. and wife Luzette; daughters, Ann K. Everhart and husband Leonard "Butch" and Jane K. Byerly and husband Ned, all of Lexington; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Hobart Lynn "Doc" Hill of Welcome; a sister, Tullia H. Hoover of Cary; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Hedrick of Lexington.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, Oct. 21, at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington and from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, before the funeral in the church parlor.
