Mary Jane Brookshire Hamilton

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Jane Brookshire Hamilton, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10th, 2024, at the age of 84. Mary was a beloved resident of Linwood, North Carolina, where she touched the lives of many with her warmth and kindness.

Mary was born on Monday, January 29th, 1940, in Wilkes County North Carolina. She spent her life cherishing the values and traditions of her southern roots. She was preceded in death by her loving father, Thomas Bartley Brookshire, her nurturing mother, Alta Brookshire, and her devoted husband, Larry Dennis Hamilton Sr., with whom she shared many treasured years, one brother, Glenn Brookshire, three sisters, Gladys Brookshire, Betty Blake, and Barbara Sigmon.

Mary was the proud owner of M&L Ministop, a cherished local establishment that served as both a business and a community hub. Through her hard work and dedication, she provided not only goods and services but also friendship and support to those around her. Mary had many hobbies which included cooking, spending time with family, gardening, reading novels, mountain trips to get apples, driving race cars at Bowman Gray Stadium, computer games, and listening to Country Music, she was especially proud of her membership in the Moose Lodge in Spencer, and one of her most cherished moments was seeing Elvis Pressley back in 1955 at the Lexington YMCA.

Her warmth extended beyond her business, where she became an integral part of the community. Mary's compassion, generosity, and unwavering love for her family, friends, and neighbors will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Surviving are , four daughters, Teresa Moren (Emery) of Lexington, Debbie Scott of Linwood, Gayle Everhart of Linwood, and Sandra Caudill (Herb) of Linwood; one step son, Dennis Hamilton (Tessa of Mocksville); one adopted son, Shaun Hamilton of Lexington;  two step daughters, Tammy Hege (Tracy) , and Bonita Sink;  one sister Lucille Mills, of Lexington several grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday December 13, 2024 at Madison Heights Freewill Baptist Church, where she was a member and started the Women’s Church Fund Raiser, with Rev. David Robinson officiating services. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The community mourns the loss of a remarkable woman, whose legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. While Mary may be gone from our sight, her spirit will live on in the cherished memories and lasting impacts she left behind.
