Mary Jo Dorsett Koonts

Mary Jo Dorsett Koonts, 85, of Stratford Road, died Sunday, July 19, 2015, at her home following an extended illness. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Davidson Funeral Home with the Revs. Butch Conrad and Jimmy Norred officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and other times at the home. Mrs. Koonts was born December 14, 1929, in Davidson County, to Andrew Willie “Jack” Dorsett and Mary Elzada Canady Dorsett. She attended New Jerusalem United Church of Christ. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Smith; and a sister, Peggy Swing. Surviving are her loving husband of 65 years Robert Lee Koonts of the home; sons, Danny Koonts and wife Angie and Robert Koonts Jr. and wife Raye Ann, all of Lexington; daughter, Cecilia Beauchamp of Lexington; five grandchildren, , Scott Koonts whom she raised as if he were her own child and his wife Elizabeth, Toby Varner and wife Soufin, Courtney Thrift and husband Michael, Anna Koonts and Daniel Koonts; five great-grandchildren, Chelsea Walters and husband Nick, Colton Thrift, Noah Thrift, Nathan Varner and Willow MaryJo Koonts; and brothers, Bobby Dorsett and Richard Dorsett and wife Judy, all of Lexington. Memorials may be made to New Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 4104 Jerusalem Church Road, Lexington, NC 27292 or Alzheimers Disease and Related Disorders Association of the Western NC and Piedmont, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
