Mary Ruth Taylor King, of Lexington peacefully entered into eternity with her daughters by her side, on Monday morning (August 29, 2011).
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday (September 1, 2011) at First Baptist Church 201 W. Third Avenue, Lexington with Rev. Tommy Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be at 3:00 pm Friday, September 2, 2011 at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 800 Truxton Drive, Kingsport, TN.
Mary was born on December 17, 1934 in Scott County, Virginia, to the late James Audley Taylor and Mary Belle Hilbert Taylor. Mary graduated from Gate City High School in Gate City, VA. She attended Hiwassee College in Madisonville, TN, and East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. She taught school briefly before joining her husband, who was serving in the US Army, in Germany. After several moves, Carl and Mary spent the last thirty-six years in North Carolina. In recent years, she also enjoyed spending time at her family farm in Virginia. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of forty-five years, Carl Lynn King; her parents; a brother, Cecil Afton Taylor; sisters Nina Taylor Winegar and Vera Taylor Roller.
Mary was a loving wife, devoted mother, and cherished grandmother and great grandmother. A true Southern lady, she treasured her faith, family, and friendships above herself. She had a beautiful spirit with a passion for life and laughter. Her joy and strength will be honored and celebrated as her legacy.
She is survived by three daughters, Sheree King Hasty and husband, Richard Eugene Hasty, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Lynn King Adelman and husband, John Edward Adelman of Matthews, NC and Anna King Bedford and husband, Jason Robert Bedford of Raleigh, NC; 10 grandchildren, Jonathan Taylor Hasty and wife, Julie Thompson Hasty, Waverly Anne Hasty, James Stewart Hasty, Curran Allison Adelman, Marianna Lynn Adelman, Lena Catherine Adelman, James Edward Adelman, John Andrew Adelman, Carly Elizabeth Bedford, and Claire Allison Bedford; and one great-grandson, Jonathan Maddux Hasty; her sister, Elizabeth Taylor Robert of Scott County, Virginia; her brother, James Floyd Taylor of Northport, AL.
