Mary Louise Moffitt Leonard

Mary Louise Moffitt Leonard, of West Second Avenue, Lexington, passed away on Sunday (8-17-2008) at Lexington Health Care. There will be a memorial service at the First Reformed United Church of Christ on Wednesday (8-20-2008) at 2:00 pm, with The Rev. Dr. Walter Patton and The Rev. F. Michael Hooper officiating. A private burial will be held prior to the service. Mrs. Leonard was born on March 30, 1913 in Lexington, NC to Maie Thompson Moffitt and Joseph Vestal Moffitt, Sr. She was a graduate of Goucher College in Baltimore, MD in 1934. She was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dr. Jacob Calvin Leonard, Jr., and her brother, Joseph Vestal Moffitt, Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Rhonwen (Rhonnie) Leonard Newton of Columbia, SC, and Merle Leonard Hodges and husband Jerry of Lexington; her sister, Betsy Moffitt Goodson of Knoxville, TN; 4 grandchildren, Leigh Hodges Earnhardt of Rockwell, NC; Blair Newton Jones of Clinton, NY; Allison Newton Satchell of Easton, MD; and Dr. William Brockenbrough Newton, III of Winston-Salem; six great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Margaret Jones; Mason and Jacob Satchell; and Will and Helen Newton. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home, 301 N. Main Street in Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Reformed United Church of Christ, 104 E. Center Street, Lexington, NC 27292 or to Davidson Medical Ministries, PO Box 584, Lexington, NC 27293.
