Mary Maxine Arrowood Bates

Mary Maxine Arrowood Bates, age 88, of Lexington passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016 at Alston Brook in Lexington.   A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 11:00 am at Lighthouse Baptist Church with Pastor Avery Varnadore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.   The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday at the Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel.   Mrs. Bates was born in Cherokee, NC on April 14, 1928 to Pearly Deverow Arrowood and Bessie Almond Arrowood. She was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church. Mrs. Bates enjoyed fishing, camping, the place at the lake, and had a special place in her heart for animals and especially dogs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Leon Bates; a brother, Wayne Hubert Arrowood Sr.; and three sisters, Zenna Mae Arrowood, Gladys Arrowood, and Sarah Brown.   Surviving are her son, Gary Leon Bates and wife Deborah of Lexington; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Lea Bates of Lexington.   Memorials may be directed to the Humane Society of Davidson County at PO Box 1791 Lexington, NC 27293 or to the Alzheimer's Association Eastern North Carolina at 3739 National Drive, Suite 110, Raleigh, NC 27612.   Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree is assisting the family.
