Mary "Polly" Frances Rollins

Mary Frances (Polly) Rollins passed away August 8, 2013 at Alston Brook Facility in Lexington. A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 2013, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Wilson officiating. To speak to the family prior to the service, they will be available in the church fellowship hall at 3 p.m. Interment will be private. Polly was born on September 13, 1926 to Daniel Hickman and Martha Jane White in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended Birmingham-Southern College, graduating in 1948 with a BA. She also attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, graduating with a Master of Religious Education in 1952. Polly was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. In 1951, she married Leonard Leon Rollins of Spindale, NC and was a partner with him in ministry from his early years at Coggins Memorial Baptist Church through his time as Director of Liberty Baptist Association. They had been married 50 years when Leonard died in 2001. During Polly’s ministry and life in Lexington she was active on local, associational, and state level ministers’ wives organizations, church secretaries’ organizations and the NC Woman’s Missionary Union Executive Board. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Lexington, as well as supporting her husband in all the churches he served. Over many years, Polly served FBC as a Sunday School teacher as well as presenting countless mission studies programs and leading women’s retreats. Polly is preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, and all eight of her siblings. She is survived by daughters Jane Rollins Coldiron and husband Steve of Suwanee, Georgia and grandsons, Matthew and wife Kelly and Jonathan; Mary Lou Rollins and husband Steve of Durham, NC; Ann Rollins Houchins and husband JR of Lexington and grandchildren Ashley and Robert Isaac. Polly’s first great grandchild, Jackson Lee Coldiron was born in 2012. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 436, Lexington, NC 27293.
