Mary Magdelene Byrd Swing, of Marion Drive, died peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, at Centerclair Nursing Center after a lengthy illness.
A graveside service will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at Forest Hill Memorial Park, led by the Rev. Bobby Bonds.
Mrs. Swing was born Oct. 31, 1923, in Winston-Salem. She was the daughter of Oliver H. and Hattie Henley Byrd. She lived most of her life in Lexington and attended local schools.
She was employed by Lexington Telephone Co. for 17 years. Artistic in all of her pursuits, she enjoyed being a homemaker.
Mrs. Swing was a devout and faithful Christian and a member of Grace Missionary Alliance Church. Her dedication as a Sunday school teacher endeared her to all who knew her, especially the children.
Married in York, S.C., on Sunday, July 27, 1941, to Holland Swing, they recently observed their 65th wedding anniversary.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a sister, Lily Newell and her husband, Bobby, of Hunt Road.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Carl, Wade and James; and three sisters, Lottie, Estelle and Pearleen.
