Mary Melton Waddell

Mary Magdalene Melton Waddell, age 84, of Welcome passed away on March 7, 2013 at Pine Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center of Thomasville. A funeral service will be held 11 A.M., Monday March 11, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Welcome where she was a member, with Rev. Mark Blair officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel and other times at the home of her daughter Rebecca. Mary was born January 2, 1929 in Woodlawn, VA to Harold Samuel Melton and Addie Fowler Melton. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She served her Lord and her church faithfully all her life. Mary had a special love of missions and was active for many years in Women’s Missionary Union. She mentored young women sharing her love of helping others. She attended West Virginia Business College, and was retired from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James Breece Waddell on December 26, 1999, and was also preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Bernice Poe. She is survived by daughters, Rebecca Waddell of Welcome, Ramona Maynard and husband Larry of Cary NC and Ruth Garrison, and husband James of Arden NC; grandchildren Ryan Maynard , Tyler Maynard of Cary and Jacob Garrison of Arden; nieces Mary Spivey(Jimmy) and Elizabeth McMillan of Galax VA and special friends Betty Tonsor and Ada Goode. Memorials may be made to the missions program at First Baptist Church of Welcome, P.O. Box 269, Welcome NC 27374 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1315 Ashleybrook Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to thank the staff of Pine Ridge Health and Rehabilitation and Hospice of Davidson County, for the excellent care they provided Mary.
