Matt left us on January 14, 2024, at Baptist Hospital, succumbing to complications from pneumonia. Born on January 27, 1965, to James "Pete" Moore and Martha Hedrick Moore, Matt lived a life that touched the hearts of many.
A service to honor Matthew's memory will be held Saturday, January 20 at 11am at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel with Pastor Mark Rachels officiating. Interment at Forest Hill Memorial Park following the service. Visitation one hour prior at 10:00am.
A proud 1983 graduate of Central Davidson, Matt's legacy remains in Spartan history as an exceptional quarterback. His abilities extended beyond the football field, as he dedicated himself to the Brookside Swimming Team, earning distinction as a committed swimmer and diver.
Beyond his personal achievements, Matt's passion for mentoring shone in his role as a Coach for Davis Townsend. Under his guidance, these teams achieved multiple championships, and countless young players, including his nephew Jason Moore, benefited from his wisdom and leadership. Professionally, Matt excelled as a District Sales Manager at Rich Products in Buffalo, N.Y where he was a supervisor for the eastern part on the United States.
Family was at the core of Matt's being. He is survived by his parents, beloved son, Matthew Scott Moore, his cherished daughter, Grace Elizabeth Moore Jonasson, and son-in-law, Koby Jonasson. His devotion extended to his sister, Felicia Moore Sherman, and her husband, Nelson Sherman, of Greensboro, and his brother, Danny Moore, of Lexington. Nephews Jason Moore and his wife Annie, Jack Sherman and his wife Lauren, Chris Moore and his wife Ashlyn, and Josh Moore, along with great-nephews Jacob Moore, Weston Moore, Easton Moore, and Rush Sherman, all mourn the loss of their dear uncle. The mother of his children, Tracie Scott Moore, of High Point, and her family, share in this profound grief. Matt's pride and joy were his children, and he never missed an opportunity to brag about their accomplishments.
Matt's generosity, kindness, and warm spirit endeared him to all who knew him. A devoted family man, his absence leaves a void that cannot be filled. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched.
His greatest joy in life was taking his family and friends fishing and joy riding in his boat off the coast of Oak Island. This hobby brought him immense happiness and created lasting memories for those fortunate enough to share those moments with him.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations, and condolences to be offered to Journey Church of Lexington, 61 Biesecker Road, Lexington, N.C., or Second Reform United Church of Christ, Lexington, NC or donate to the education of his children in care of James Moore Sr at PO Box 306 Lexington, NC 27293-0306. As we remember and celebrate the life of Matthew Wilson Moore, let us keep his spirit alive in our hearts.
