Maxine Swicegood Barrett, 78, of South Happy Hill Road, died Saturday, August 16, 2014, at High Point Regional Hospital following declining health of six months.
A service of remembrance will be 2 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2014, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Angie Jackson officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
Mrs. Barrett was born December 20, 1935, in Davidson County, to Archie Blackburn Swicegood and Betty Carrick Swicegood. She was an avid Carolina Basketball and Atlanta Braves fan. She helped lead Reeds High School to four straight County Basketball Championships and also was awarded the Most Outstanding Female Athlete award at Pfeiffer College. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Franklin Barrett, who died September 24, 1972.
Surviving are son, Lance Barrett and wife Venus of Lexington; daughter, Kelly Barrett of Lexington; grandchildren, Barrett Ellis, Aaron Ellis, Leslie Ellis, Kristoef Barrett, and Bryce Barrett; and brother, Kent D. Swicegood of Tyro.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4299 South NC Highway 150, Lexington, NC 27295.
