Maxine Beck Black of Ward Curry Road, died Thursday, December 08, 2016, at Abbotts Creek Health and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2016, at Hedrick’s Grove Reformed United Church of Christ with the Rev. William Sowers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and at the church fellowship hall on Monday one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. and other times at the home of her daughter on Nottingham Drive. Mrs. Black was born February 14, 1926, in Davidson County to Charles L. Beck and Lissie Ree Sink Beck. She was retired from JF Ward where she had served as a salesperson for many years. She was an active member of her church and faithfully attended as her health allowed. She was a member of VFW Post 3074 Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Post 8 Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Donald Lee Black who died May 10, 1996; brother, Arnold Beck; and sisters, Charlotte Craver and Ruth Myers. Surviving are sons, Dr. Donald Black (Pauline) of Rochester, NY, and Bobby Black (Judy) of Lexington; daughter, Joyce Oliver (Monty) of Lexington; grandchildren, Leigh Ann Myers (Ted), Caroline Bowen (Scott), Julie Milner, Don Black (Amanda), Jacqueline Lockamy (Walter), Robby Black (Vicky), and Jonathan Carpenter (Kathy); great-grandchildren, Caleb, Jacob and Alexandra Myers, Bradley Bowen, Carsen Milner, Brielle, Sophia and Landon Black, Katherine, Isabella and Victoria Lockamy, Lexy, Lucas, Livy, and Leo Black, and Natalie and Davis Carpenter.
