Obituary

Maxine Keiffer, 89, of Davidson County, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Hinkle Hospice House.

Service information will be provided once available.

Maxine was born on February 7, 1937, in Davidson County, to the late Ivory Lee Proctor and Della Kennedy Proctor. She retired from Lexington Public Library where she worked in administration.

Those who knew Maxine remember her love for being busy with jigsaw puzzles, word searches, and playing cards always keeping her mind sharp and her hands active. Her cooking was next to none, and her spaghetti will never be outmatched along with her award-winning baking.

The love she had for people was felt throughout her circle of friends, family, and her community. In prior years, she set aside time each month to visit with her girlfriends from U.S. Furniture where she used to work and made friends wherever she went while she was always on the go.

Maxine was a member of Wesley Heights UMC for years and loved serving the lord and her fellow church members. She worked as the treasurer and secretary, and with her bookkeeping skills, made sure to stay on top of important details.

The area where she most shined was with her family. The devotion she had for her children and grandchildren was a blessing for herself and for them. Spending time with them filled her heart with joy and remaining close was an important part of her life.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Nellie Albertson and Lessie Guthrie, and brothers, Grant and Darrell Proctor.

Left to carry on her legacy are her sons, Michael Parris (Amanda), Lexington, and Mark Parris (Amy), Raleigh; sister, Jackie Kinley (Bascom); grandchildren, Luke and Alexandria Parris; beloved nieces and nephews, long-time friends, Rev. Dwight and Carol Cartner, many special friends, close neighbors, and loving caregivers, Leetha Pittman and Amber King.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Davidson County EMS and West Lexington Fire Department, and the wonderful people of Hinkle Hospice House for taking such good care of Maxine.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Davidson County Senior Services, 555-B W. Center St. Ext. Lexington, NC 27295.
