Melba Beeker Leonard, 92, of Lexington, died Monday, August 25, 2014, at Hinkle Hospice House. The funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Angie Jackson officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:30 to 3:30 prior to the service and other times at their respective homes. Mrs. Leonard was born August 25, 1922, in Davidson County, to Elmo Lee Beeker and Alice Myers Beeker. She married the love of her life, Edward, at a young age and lived the first 16 years of their marriage in Venezuela, where he was employed with Standard Oil Company. She loved working in her gardens and watching the flowers bloom. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Edward B. Leonard; brothers, Harold Beeker and Graham Beeker; and sister, Hilda Seaford. Surviving are brother, Burton Beeker of Lexington; sister, Lala B. Tussey of Lexington; SISTERS-IN-LAW, Frances Beeker, Sarah Beeker, Gilda Greer and husband, Bruce, all of Lexington, and Wilma Leonard of Salisbury; and many loving nieces and nephews. The family extends a special thanks to the care givers at Alpha Health Care and the staff of Hinkle Hospice House for all the love and care shown to Melba and her family. Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4299 South NC Highway 150, Lexington, NC 27295.
