Meldon Wayne Gillespie

Meldon “Wayne” Gillespie, 68, of Davidson County, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at his home.

A funeral service will be held at the mausoleum at Forest Hill Memorial Park at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 4, 2023, with Herman Powell officiating.

Wayne was born on January 12, 1955, in Davidson County to the late Walter Monroe Gillespie and Dorothy Muncus Gillespie. He worked for most of his life in the furniture industry. Wayne enjoyed fishing, woodworking, traveling, and especially drag racing. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his brother, Kenneth; and his sister, Linda.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Yolanda Shaw of Lexington; two grandchildren, Amber Shaw (Jamie), and Aaron Shaw (Sara); seven great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Skye, Kayden, Grayson, Brayden, and Xandria, Hazel “Faye”; siblings, Albert Gillespie (Donna) of Graham, Guilford Gillespie of Lexington, David Gillespie (Robin) of Lexington, Eddie Gillespie of Lexington, Mark Gillespie (Robin) of Thomasville, Mary Dauer (Dave) of Denton, and Tim Gillespie of Denton; sister-in-law, Linda Leonard (Lindsey); and beloved dog, Riley.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Davidson County 1120 Piedmont Drive, Lexington, NC 27295 or to The Davidson County Animal Shelter, 490 Glendale Road, Lexington, NC 27292.
