Melvin Lester Barney

Melvin Lester Barney, 83, of Arvil Hunt Road, died Monday, May 06, 2013, at The Laurels of Salisbury. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, Reeds United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Gary Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son. Mr. Barney was born July 30, 1929, in Davie County, to James Frank Barney and Grace Allen Barney. He was retired from Henry Link. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Campbell Barney; and sisters, Elsie Myers and Lucille Lampley. Surviving are son, Eddy Barney and wife Norma of Lexington; grandchildren, Jason Barney and Kelly Shoaf and husband Drew of Lexington; great-grandson, Hudson Shoaf; brother, George Barney and wife Betty of Lexington; and sisters, Lillian Boone, and Marie Beck and husband Clifford, all of Lexington.
