Melvin Pierce Fitzgerald

Melvin Pierce Fitzgerald, 81, of Fitzgerald Farm Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem after four months of declining health. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Linwood United Methodist Church, where he was a member, by the Revs. Cynthia Arnold, Hal Varner and Don Noblitt. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Fitzgerald was born June 13, 1925, in Davidson County to Roger Pierce Fitzgerald and Ethel Swicegood Fitzgerald. He was a farmer and a member of the Southern Davidson Camp of Gideon's International. Mr. Fitzgerald was preceded in death by a son, Charles Roger Fitzgerald. Surviving are his wife, Willie Veigh McCarn Fitzgerald of the home; one daughter, Louise Grubb and her husband, David, of Linwood; two grandchildren, Donna Sink and her husband, Terry, of Lexington and Mitzi Tester and her husband, Kevin, of Linwood; one great-grandchild, Alicen Tester; and two brothers, Leroy Fitzgerald and his wife, Rose Mae, of Linwood and Franklin Fitzgerald and his wife, Thelma, of Thomasville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Linwood United Methodist Church, P.O.
