Mendel Lee Grant, 71, of Lowell, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Davidson Funeral Home by Dr. Joe Coltrane. Interment will follow the service at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia and from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home.
He was born May 10, 1940, in Whitmire, S.C., to Robert Frank and Lottie Mars Grant.
Mendel’s family moved to Cramerton when he was a boy and he graduated from Cramerton High School where he played football. He was an electrician in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, serving on the USS Shangri-La. After his service, he went to business school and worked for various oil companies. He was a loving husband and devoted father who will be missed.
Survivors of Mr. Grant include his beloved wife of 41 years, Kaye Ward Grant, of Lowell; daughter Tracy Grant and partner Michael Chalmers of Charlotte; son Michael Grant and wife Lisa of Kings Mountain; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jenny Grant of Gastonia; sister Hazel Ramsaur of Lowell; nieces and nephews; also “Daddy” to nieces Lori and Ashley and Papa to Sunni; and Papa’s furry friends, Riley, Zoey, and Maggie Lee,
