Menson “Buddy” Ervin Byrd, age 84 of Lexington, NC passed away Saturday October 24, 2015 at his home.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, October 28, 2015 in the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Lewis Johns officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park with The Rev. Tony Ladley officiating as well as military honors by The Davidson County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday night, and other times at the home.
Menson was born in Durham County, NC February 22, 1931 to H. M. Byrd and Arietta C. Byrd. He was a retired mechanic from Glosson Motor Company, and was also a member of Coggins Memorial Baptist Church. Menson was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served his country during the Korean War. He was a member of VFW Post 3074, where he served as Commander, and was also a member of American Legion Post 8 and Amvets Post 13.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Byrd; his second wife, Jean Jones Hardin Byrd; sisters Pansy Wall and Louise Revelle and a brother, Ralph Byrd; step-daughters, Diane Jones Roseberry and Mary Ellen Mayo; sister in law Chong Yim Byrd; brother in law, Rev. Charles Dickens and Chub Wilson; and grandson, Brandon Byrd.
Surviving are his live in companion, Margaret Crotts; his son, Randall “Randy” Byrd (Vonice) of Florida; daughters, Kathy Byrd Long (Robert) of China Grove and Arietta Byrd Johnson (James) of Florida; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Yvonne Byrd Wilson and Judy Byrd Dickens; brothers, Dewey Byrd (Daphne), Rev. Raymond Byrd (Martha), Rev. James Byrd (Judy), Jack Byrd (Margaret), Roger Byrd (Betty) and Jerry Byrd (Sallie); as well as many nieces and nephews.
