Michael Edward McGaffney passed away Sunday morning, August 25 of medical complications.
Born in Brigantine, NJ, Mike was in love with the beach and surfing. He lived many places throughout his life, California, New Jersey, and eventually settled in North Carolina. He served a term in the U.S. Marine Corps and returned to southern New Jersey to build a life for himself with his wife, Wendy Francz née Meadows.
Mike owned and operated a floor installation business in Egg Harbor City. An avid outdoorsman, Mike spent a lot of time enjoying camping, canoeing, and hiking. His extreme interest in the Civil War and American history was expressed through Civil War re-enactments, Living History demonstrations, and countless presentations to local schools and community members. He lived for music and could often be found bopping along at a concert or sharing his own strumming with anyone willing to listen. He spent much of his later years contributing to the recovery and sobriety community. He was dedicated to giving back to the world around him.
Mike is predeceased by his parents, Harry and Katherine, brother, Joey McGaffney and his sister Cathy Swanson. He is survived by his three daughters, Jennifer, Katie, and Sarah McGaffney, and his sister, Susan Johnston, nephews Ryan Swanson and Kevin Johnston, and grandchildren Connor and Charlie McGaffney and Valentina Lalli.
His daughters will share details of a memorial service shortly.
