Mildred Byerly Essick, 83, of Silkwind Court, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at Forsyth Medical Center.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Arcadia United Methodist Church, where she was a member, by the Revs. Patrick Marion and Alvin Pope. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Essick was born June 24, 1923, in Davidson County to Arthur Byerly and Minnie Sink Byerly. She retired from Midway Cold Storage and was a member of the United Methodist Women at her church. She was very involved with her family and served as a caretaker for many people. She was well-known for her baking. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie Essick Jr., and a sister, Elsie Whitaker.
She is survived by her son, Randall Essick and his wife, Theresa, of Raleigh; her daughter, Linda Mitchell and her husband, Bob, of Clemmons; five grandchildren, Jim Mitchell and his wife, Ceretha, Jeff Mitchell and his wife, Pam, Kristi Wall and her husband, Jerry, Heather Prather and her husband, Rick, and Chad Essick and his wife, Melissa; seven great-grandchildren, Chase Mitchell, Justis Mitchell, Jordan Mitchell, Madison Wall, Ayden Wall, Mackenzie Prather and Kayleigh Prather; and her sister, Joan Spaugh of Arcadia.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel, and other times at the home.
