Mildred Louise Potts Lanier, 87, of Lanier Road, Lexington, died Saturday February 6, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Health - Lexington Medical Center.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, at Second Reformed United Church of Christ with the Rev. Jim Luck officiating the service. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive family and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 9 at Davidson Funeral Home
Mrs. Lanier was born April 2, 1928, in Davidson County, to Arthur Harriston Potts and Ollie Mae Towe Potts. She was a lifetime member of Second Reformed UCC. During the years she served in the choir, taught a Primary Sunday school class, and served as a Women’s Circle leader. She was a member of the Friendship Sunday school class where she served at various times as president, secretary and treasurer. In 2010, for her many years of service in the church and community, Mrs. Lanier was awarded the Pearle Peeler Award for service by Second Reformed UCC Women’s Guild. Over the years she worked at Leonard Cleaners and Seaford’s Shoe Store. In 1973 she became secretary/treasurer of Dallas Lanier Plumbing, Inc., a business she and her husband, Dallas, owned and operated until she retired in 1999. Preceding Mrs. Lanier in death were her parents; a brother, Ervin Potts; two sisters, Arlene Lanier and Thelma Koonts.
Surviving is her loving husband of 70 years, Dallas Lanier of the home; one brother, Cletus Potts and wife Rachel; one daughter, Joretta Ann Lanier Koontz and husband David of Lexington; one grandson, Shannon David Koontz and wife Susan; two great-granddaughters, Sydney Koontz and Sara Koontz; and several nieces and nephews.
