Mildred was born on July 6, 1939, in Rowan County, to the late Robert Little Chaffin and Martha Byerly Chaffin.

She was a woman who found joy in the simple, comforting pleasures of life—losing herself in word searches, savoring her beloved Love Inspired romance novels, and never missing an episode of The Price Is Right. A day of shopping, even if she didn’t buy a thing, was enough to lift her spirits, and her kitchen was a place where love took the form of unforgettable meals. She traveled happily to both the beach and the mountains, and when camping in those mountain woods, her campfire cooking was nothing short of legendary. But more than any hobby or adventure, it was her family who filled her heart the most—especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the true light of her life. She was comforted in her last days and had peace knowing she was heading to her eternal home with Jesus and her beloved husband.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby Lee Mize; brothers, Robert, Jimmy, JW, and Bruce Chaffin; and grandson, Chris Rutherford.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Kevin Mize, of Lexington, Tim Mize, of Lexington, Cindy Mize, of Lexington, Angela Johnson (Jeff), of Asheboro, and Tracie Mize, of High Point; brother, Donald Chaffin (Myrna), of Texas; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 200 Hospice Way Lexington, NC 27292.
