Mildred was born on November 28, 1932, in Davidson County, to the late Charlie Alexander Smith Sr. and Frances Ruth VonCannon Smith.
Mildred was a loyal and active member of Jersey Baptist Church, where she sang in the Senior Choir, participated in the Senior Group, and faithfully taught Sunday School to third and fourth graders for fifty-four years. She adored children and found great joy in sharing her faith and making a difference in their lives.
Always one to stay busy and enjoy life, Mildred loved water skiing and continued to ski well into her later years, stopping only when she reached the age of 80. She was also an excellent seamstress, making her own clothes and dresses, including special new dresses for the many parties and gatherings she loved to host. She had a gift for party planning and took great pleasure in bringing people together. She also enjoyed tending to her beautiful flower gardens, which reflected the care and attention she gave to everything she did.
One of the greatest highlights of her life was visiting the Holy Land, where she had the treasured opportunity to take communion in the Garden of Gethsemane. Above all else, Mildred cherished her family. She was a devoted wife and mother who took immense pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her family was always the most important part of her life.
Along with her parents, she is reunited in death with her husband of 64 years, Carroll Smith; brother, Charlie Smith Jr; and sister, Alice Hedrick.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Pam Shoaf (Sammy), and Luann Everhardt (Randy), both of Lexington; three grandchildren, Mandy Bogdanoff (Aron), Anderson Everhardt (Ashley), and Anna Wright (Kenneth) ; nine great grandchildren, Hailey, Maddie, Jaxon, Lily, Bryson, Chesney, Collin, Lucas, and River; siblings, Frances Koonts, Cora Humphries, Bill Smith, Pudge Smith (Brenda), and Patty Hedrick (Allen); sister in law, Brenda B. Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jersey Baptist Church, 2920 Jersey Church Rd Lexington, NC 27292 or to Alderwood Hospice, 202 Hospice Way Lexington, NC 27292.
