Miles Livingston Croom, age 81 of West Fourth Avenue, Lexington passed away Friday
night (8-08-2008) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston Salem.
A service to celebrate the life of Miles will be held at 11:00 am Saturday (8-16-2008) at Fairmont Presbyterian Church with Rev. J. Randy Hall and Dr. Jimmy Grant officiating. Visitation
will follow the service.
Miles was born in Fort Worth, Texas January 24, 1927 to Marvin Earl Croom and Maud Livingston Croom. He was an active member in the community. He attended church faithfully, serving as an elder, as a Presbytery representative, and as a co-sponsor of the “Acts Alive” youth group at First Presbyterian Church. He served Lexington on the City Planning Committee and also on the Board for Davidson County Hospice. He was recognized as the Outstanding Senior Citizen in 2002 by the Lexington Jaycees. He also contributed as guest columnist for the Lexington Dispatch in recent years. A graduate of Rice University, with a professional degree in Mechanical Engineering, he was also a veteran of the US Navy having served during World War II. He moved to Lexington to work with United Furniture and later worked and retired from Mid State Tile Company. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Ellen Croom and sisters Janet Champagne and Carolyn Potter. His children will remember him as the sweetest and dearest dad.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years; Eileen Croom of Las Cruces, New Mexico, sons and family; Miles Millar Croom and wife Mary of Gulfport, Florida, M. Gage Croom and wife Linda and son Aaron of Haw River, NC; Marshall A. Croom and wife Kris and daughters Hannah and Mikala of Mooresville, NC; daughters and family, Laura Croom Fite and children Sarah, and husband Craig, and Ben Fite of Bailey, NC; Carolyn Croom Armstrong, and husband Bob, and children Graham and Adam of El Paso, Texas; and a sister Alison Croom Cowling of Guilderland, NY.
