Mina Brown Swicegood

Mina Brown Swicegood, 90, of Mt. Vista Health Park, formerly of the Erlanger Community in Lexington, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Saturday, May 16, 2009, after a brief illness. She was born January 2, 1919, to William Howard Brown and Clara Ellen Haynes Brown. She lived her entire life in the Erlanger Community. She was married to Cleo Michael (Peg) Swicegood who preceded her in death in 1983. She was a wonderful mother. She loved and cared for her daughters and family with all of her heart. Mina never met a stranger. She had a bubbly personality and a great sense of humor. She will be missed by all that survive her. She was a faithful church worker until she began living at Mt. Vista. She believed in the Lord and always spread the word of Christ to others. She was a member of Beck’s Lutheran Church. Prior to that, she was a member of what was then Erlanger Baptist Church. Mina worked for 45 years for Elanger Mills, continuing with Parkdale Mills until her retirement. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe Terry Brown, William Howard Brown, Jr., “Brownie” and Stuart Rabb “Pockets” Brown. Mina is survived by two daughters, Marsha Lynn Swicegood Myers of Lexington and Sarah Elisabeth Swicegood Grice and husband, David, of Denton; three grandchildren, Michael Myers of Rock Hill, S.C., Chris Grice of Charlotte, and Lindsay Grice of Denton; four great-grandchildren, Jonathan Crotts of Lexington, Austin and Arielle Myers of Rock Hill, S.C., and Roxanne “Roxy” Grice of Charlotte. Also surviving are a brother, Ernest Carl Brown of Ringgold, Ga.; and one sister, Georgia Brown Myers of Lexington. The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, May 19, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington at 301 North Main Street. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel. A brief graveside service will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to either Beck’s Lutheran Church, 441 Beck’s Church Road, Lexington, NC 27292 or to Cotton Grove Methodist Church, 175 Jersey Church Road, Lexington, NC 27292.
