Myrtle Gurley Childress

Myrtle Gurley Childress, 85, of Winston Salem passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at The Hinkle Hospice House.

Mrs. Childress will lie in state from 3-5pm on Sunday, February 21, 2021  at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel. The family will have a private burial. Social distancing guidelines and facial masks are requested.

Myrtle was born on August 23, 1935 in Johnston County, North Carolina to Harvey Gurley and Nattie Louise Corbett Gurley. She retired as a CNA and worked for Baptist Hospital. Mrs. Childress enjoyed reading and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Larry Gantt Childress, Sr.; son, Larry Childress, Jr.; and her siblings Louise, Jessie and John.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Steve O. Childress (Donna); daughter-in-law, Roxanne Myers; grandchildren, Karen Walker (Wes); Stephanie Childress (Brandon), Jennifer Childress (Jason) and Danielle Childress; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Jason and Trevor; her sisters, Ruby and Hazel.

Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel is serving the Childress Family.
