Myrtle Jeanette Hege

February 27, 1935 — January 30, 2021

Myrtle Jeanette Hege, formerly of West Center Street Ext, entered peacefully into the presence of her Lord on Saturday, January 30th at Forsyth Medical Center after a long battle with RA, Dementia and most recently, complications from COVID-19. A private, graveside memorial service will be held at Shiloh UMC by the Reverend Benny Clodfelter and the Reverend Tyler Hege. Born on February 27th, 1935 to Paul Lee Hege and Alice Myrtle Walser Hege in Lexington, North Carolina. Jeanette was a graduate of North Davidson High School and was retired from AT&T. The oldest of three siblings, Jeanette is survived by her sister, Shirley Bowers and husband Bob of High Point and sister in-law, Martha Hege of Lexington. She is predeceased by her parents, and younger brother, Lonnie Hege. Though she had no children of her own, she treated her nieces and nephews as they were hers, always making sure everyone had what they needed to succeed in the journey of life. Special nephews and nieces include; Brent Hege (Gretchen), Scott Hege, Brian Hege and Jeff Bowers (Catherine), Miranda Proctor (Sid) and Christy Dyson (Mike). Jeanette also has many special cousins that were dear to her heart, and a plethora of great nieces and nephews. A lifelong, devoted member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, Jeanette faithfully served as a fifth grade Sunday School teacher, a dedicated member of the United Methodist Women and the Willing Workers Class. Through her love for gardening, Jeanette meticulously crafted hundreds of fresh flower arrangements from her own garden for the altar at Shiloh Church, as well as sewing many heirloom quilts that always topped Shiloh fundraisers. Jeanette collected hundreds of pencils from all around the world throughout the years and had an impressive collection of heirloom glass. Our family will forever be grateful to the staff of Mallard Ridge Assisted Living, particularly those who worked with her closely within the Horizon’s Community, especially in the midst of a pandemic. During her last days, Jeanette was cared for and loved by the staff of Forsyth Medical Center and Trellis Hospice of Winston. She was blessed to have those staff members by her side in the absence of her family due to Covid. In lieu of flowers, food or visits, please contribute to the Shiloh UMC FLC fund or to Trellis Hospice of Winston Salem, to aid in their continuation of care for Covid patients and families.
