Nancy Coleman Canady, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on January 27, 2026, at her home in Davidson County.
Ms. Canady was born on May 3, 1948, in Davidson County, where she was raised in the Erlanger district. She was the daughter of the late Albert Coleman and Pearl Elizabeth Williams Coleman and remained a lifelong member of the community in which she loved.
Throughout her working life, Nancy worked for the Cope family at their various restaurants in Lexington. She also worked for many years at Stroh’s Brewery Container Division in Winston Salem. She was known as a dedicated and hardworking employee who took pride in caring for others – both on the job and at home. Nancy especially enjoyed cooking for others and did so as a gesture of love.
Nancy faithfully attended Freedom Baptist Church where she grew in her faith. She cherished her church family. She was an active participant in the church’s Senior Group and helped to prepare many bereavement meals for families in the community.
In her free time, Nancy loved to shop, do crafts, travel and spend time with her family. She really enjoyed attending softball games with her husband, Vernon, as he coached women’s softball. She took immense pride and joy in her cherished granddaughter, and she dearly loved her grand dog, Mavis, who stole a special piece of her heart.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Delano Canady; her brothers, Paul Coleman, Earl Coleman and Albert Coleman; and her sisters, Ann Leonard and Frances Coleman.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Angie Baker and son-in-law, Randy Baker; her granddaughter, Jacalyn Ennis; her sisters, Myrtle Hatcher and Carrie Koontz; step-grandchildren, Dale, Jeremy and Tyler Baker; 4 step-great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces; and a brother Gene Coleman.
Nancy’s warmth, generosity, and love for her family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service to honor Nancy’s life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Davidson Funeral Home of Lexington. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the Kernersville Ultrasound Department and Hospice of Davidson County for their compassionate care and support for Nancy and her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations may be made as designated by the donor.
