Nancy Koonts Cope

May 15, 1933 — April 4, 2010

Nancy Koonts Cope, age 76 of Salisbury, formerly of Lexington, passed on to be with her God Sunday (April 4, 2010) at Rowan Regional Medical Center. A celebration of her Life will be held 2:00 pm Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Don Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.   The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Wednesday night.   Nancy was born in Davidson County, May 15, 1933 to Raymond Cleo Koonts and Grace Lewis Koonts.  She completed college in 1970 and became an registered nurse.  She served for 35 years in various fields of nursing mostly in Occupational Health.  She retired from the City of Lexington in 1993 after 14 years, for PPG for 8 years and Home Health Professionals. She was the first woman to run for mayor of Lexington and lost to incumbent V. G. Price.  She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion, AOHN Association, served on the Crimestoppers Commission, and the Human Relations Commission of the City of Lexington. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene “Gene” Cope in 1997 and a sister Wanda Hedrick.   Surviving are, one son, E. Ray Cope and wife Vera of Salisbury; two sisters, Carolyn Everhart of Peoria, IL and Barbara Miller of Lexington; several nieces and nephews; extended family, Sherri and Jeff and Sandra Laughinghouse.   Memorials to Trinity United Methodist Church, 902 South Main Street, Lexington, NC 27292 or Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC  27292     Online condolences may be made at www.davidsonfuneralhome.net
