Nancy Phelps Nance, 84, of Lexington peacefully departed this life on February 6, 2026.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm Tuesday, February 10 at the Lexington City Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service.
Nancy was born January 18, 1942 in Davidson County to Clarence and Daphne Fritts Phelps. She graduated from Lexington Senior High and Continental Beauty College. She later dedicated herself to a fulfilling career, retiring as an assistant activity director at Lexington Health Care.
Her commitment extended beyond her professional life. She was a dedicated board member of the Davidson County Humane Society and the Animal Center of Davidson County. Her passion for helping others also shone through her involvement as a former Vice President of her precinct for the Davidson County Democratic Party. She was known for her ability to bring people together, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose in all her endeavors. Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marshall Nance.
She is survived by her brother, Don Phelps and wife, Sarah, of Lexington; her nephew, Thomas B. Phelps and wife, Jessica, and their children, Riley and Madison; and her niece, Ashley Timberlake and husband, Daniel, and their children, Ella and Mac; and numerous cousins.
Throughout her life, Nancy touched the lives of many with her warmth and generosity. She will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her community, and her love for animals. Nancy’s legacy of kindness and service will continue to inspire those who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Ruff Love Rescue, PO Box 2013, Thomasville NC 27361, who also accept supplies such as bleach, paper towels, heavy-duty trash bags, and gently used blankets and towels; or Lake Lure Flowering Bridge, PO Box 125, Lake Lure NC 28746.
