Nancy Darleen Deaton Reid

February 21, 1937 — November 9, 2012

Nancy Darleen Deaton Reid, 75, of Robert Lloyd Drive, died Friday, November 09, 2012, at Hinkle Hospice House. A celebration of her life will be 4 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Davidson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Reid was born on February 21, 1937 in Guilford County, to Roy Deaton and Mary Greene Deaton. In 1957, Nancy married her high school sweetheart, James Donald “Don” Reid. After they married, they briefly moved to Indianapolis while Don attended chiropractic school at Lincoln School of Chiropractic. While in Indianapolis they had their first child, a son, David Cooper. In 1960, the family moved back to Lexington, NC where they set up Don’s chiropractic practice. After settling in Lexington, Nancy and Don had their three daughters, Carol Ann, Mary Susan, and Sara Nancy. One of Nancy’s passions was cooking, and was known in the community as a wonderful cook. She and her mother-in-law had their own catering business for several years, which Nancy continued to run out of her home after her mother-in-law retired. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Nancy was a dedicated band mother. She always took the time to travel with her children and other band students to away games, trips to Disney World and Washington DC. She was known to the students as “Dahleen”. She welcomed all of her “extra children”, as she called them, and treated them all as if they were her own. After the loss of her husband in 1988, Nancy continued to live in Lexington and worked part-time at From the Earth. She always enjoyed regular visits from her children, grandchildren and friends. Nancy is survived by her son, David and his wife Joan of Richmond, VA; daughters, Carol Reid Erichsen and her husband Jens Erichsen of Raleigh, Susan Reid of Arden and Sara Reid Carson of Mocksville. Nancy is also survived by three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a half-sister. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hinkle Hospice House, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
