Nancy Swicegood Schachle, beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, cousin and friend passed away peacefully at home on October 27, 2024. She blessed all those she met with exceptional kindness and grace. Nancy was born in Midway, North Carolina and lived on Enterprise Road throughout her childhood. She graduated from Midway High School in 1949 and went on to graduate from High Point College and went to work in Finance before working for a Law Firm. She met her husband of 42 years, George Schachle, while he was playing baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals organization. They married on January 1st 1955 and after moving to Oklahoma briefly, returned to the east coast to live in Roanoke, Virginia where they had two sons while George worked for R.J. Reynolds. In 1964 they moved to Virginia Beach and had their youngest son and lived there until George’s retirement in 1986. They built their dream retirement home in Lexington, North Carolina on Swicegood family land where she lived with George until his passing in 1997. Since then, she worked at Lexington Hospital as a volunteer and has lived independently at the same home which has served as a second home to her entire family where they enjoyed many happy memories through the years.
She loved her family and always thought of others first. She was kind but also independent and managed her farm and home until her passing. We all feel blessed to have had her as part of our lives and with us for her 93 years. She was an angel on earth.
