Ned Carter

Ned Ingram Carter, 77, passed away at his home in Lexington on Friday, Dec. 6, 2019.Ned was born in Lexington on March 16, 1942 to Hilda Sharpe and Forrest Ingram Carter.  A 1960 graduate of Lexington Senior High, he attended Wake Forest University and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.  Following a career in the building products industry, he founded Carter Millwork in 1996.  A voracious reader, he devoured four newspapers a day and countless books.  He had a keen interest in the Civil War and particularly enjoyed the Civil War Round Table and visiting battlefields.  After retiring in 2006, he indulged his passion for golf and travel.  And more than anything, he loved his family and friends.  He believed that you show up for them, and he did.  If there was a gathering, Ned was there and was usually the last to leave.He is survived by his wife Virginia Carol Carter; daughter Lisa Carter (Howie McDonell) of Aurora, IL; son Greg (Lisa Kemp Carter) of Winston-Salem and grandchildren Grace and Jackson Carter; son Alan and granddaughters Anderson, Grayson, and Merritt Carter of Lexington; daughter Lauren Carter (Ben Spiker) of Raleigh; brother Greg Carter (Judy) and their family; and sister-in-law Verna Carter and her family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 48 years Sally Riddle Carter, and his brother Jack Carter.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11 at the Davidson Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 12 at the Forest Hill Memorial Park in Lexington with the Reverend Dr. Lee Dukes III officiating.  Immediately following the internment, a celebration of life will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292, the Lexington Kiwanis Club, PO Box 1951, Lexington, NC 27293, or a charity of the donor's choosing are encouraged.
