David Neil Harper, 80, of Avondale Drive, Lexington passed away on Monday, December 28, 2015 in Forsyth Medical Center after a brief illness.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, December 31, 2015 in Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Eric Disher and Roger Worley officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park with graveside rites conducted by the Lexington Police Department.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Mr. Harper was born May 27, 1935 in Davidson County to Hulin Doster Harper and Minnie Cathleen Weaver Harper. He was a retired Captain for the Lexington Police Dept., where he served for 25 years. He attended Lexington Community Church and was an avid fisherman and a Tarheel fan. A US Army Veteran, he was a member of VFW Post 3074 and American Legion Post 8. Preceding him in death was his sister, Barbara Jones.
Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Nova Mauney Harper of the home; a son, David Harper and significant other, Karla Kirkman of Pilot Mt., and a brother, Kim D. Harper (Lavena) of Lexington.
