Nell Griffin Green, 94, died peacefully at her home Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Carl Lindquist and Amy Clodfelter. A private burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Mrs. Green was born Oct. 27, 1912, in Marshville to John Hurley Griffin and Lois Harrell Griffin. She attended Meredith College and graduated from East Carolina Teachers College in 1936. After teaching third grade for several years she met Berge Green, whom she married June 15, 1945. Mrs. Green then moved to Lexington, where she was a homemaker and a devoted member of First United Methodist Church. Although she never had children, she loved her brother's children as her own. One of her greatest joys was gardening, and her beautiful yard was a gift to all who visited her home over the years. Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brothers, Ralph Harrell Griffin Sr. and Oliver Harrell Griffin.
Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Pat Griffin of Wingate and Mary Cot Griffin of Durham; a nephew, Ralph "Sandy" Harrell Griffin Jr. of Wrightsville Beach; and three nieces, Libby Griffin Wilson of Chapel Hill, Patti Griffin Edwards of Marshville and Jan Griffin Carney of Mooresville.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church, 310 S. Main St., Lexington, NC 27292.
