Nell Winchester Icenhower, 83, of Nellie Drive, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center following a serious illness.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at Forest Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Roger Mills officiating.
Mrs. Icenhower was born July 10, 1928, in Swain County, to Lawrence Columbus Winchester and Sarah Dehart Winchester. She was a cook at Landmark Estates for 20 years prior to her retirement. Mrs. Icenhower was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Lum Icenhower; brothers, Frank, Ben, Fred, Joe, Carl and Elbert Winchester.
Surviving are son, Dennis Icenhower of Morganton; daughters, Evelyn McCubbins and husband, Jeff, of Churchland, Kathy Love of Statesville, Wanda Colen and husband, Henry, of North Wilkesboro, and Sarah Hubbard and husband, David, of Linwood; eight grandchildren, Mandy McCubbins Garner, Melissa McCubbins Long, Brandy Wright, Pam Shuffler, Jenifer McCubbins, Bo McCubbins, Megan Shuffler, and Earnie Colen; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Winchester of Bryson City; sister, Mary Winchester of Churchland; and sisters-in-law, Alline Winchester, Lexie Winchester, Beuna Winchester, all of Bryson City, and Jean Winchester of Sumter, S.C.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Bonnie Thomas, manager, other staff and residents of Landmark Estates for the loving care and kindness she received there for the past eight months; and also a special thanks to staff of 4A ICU for all the love and compassion shown to Mrs. Icenhower and her family.
