Nick Leonard

Nick Craver Leonard, 69 of Pelican Lane, Winston Salem died Tuesday, September 16, 2008 in Forsyth Medical Center after an extended illness. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday September 18, 2008 at Center United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Pillsbury and Rev. Hal Varner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Leonard was born in Davidson County on August 22, 1939 to Nobe Clifton Leonard and Veigh Craver Leonard. He was a 1957 graduate of North Davidson and attended Lenoir- Rhyne. He retired from RJR Tobacco Company and was former owner and operator of N.C. Leonard Oil Company. Nick was very proud to serve in the Welcome Community, was a life member in the Welcome Civitan Club serving three terms as President and many other civic duties. He was also a member of the National Guard. At Center United Methodist Church he was a member of the Goodwill Sunday school class and held various offices within the church. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Laverne Michael Leonard of the home, sons Nick “Curt” Leonard and wife Cathy and Michael Tad Leonard and wife Tracy all of Welcome, grandchildren, Brian Leonard, Taylor Leonard and Tate Leonard and a sister, Crissy Leonard Wagner and husband Bob of Welcome. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree and other times at the home on Pelican Lane.
