Norma “Lucille” Simmons Menier went home to be with Jesus on Saturday Feb. 7, 2015. She was born June 6, 1938 in Pax, WV to the late Rev. Troy L. Simmons and Nellie Eads Simmons. Lucille was a kind, caring and generous person who always did something for others. She was one of three directors of a nonprofit animal rescue and had a deep compassion for animals. She had delivered meals on wheels and most recently delivered the food for her church to the food pantry in Lexington,NC. She was the primary caregiver to her mother prior to her death in 1996. Lucille resided in Norfolk, VA for many years with her former and late husband James P. Menier, Jr. and her four children who survived her: Pam Menier Pitts (Rick), Beverly Menier, James P. Menier, III and Crystal Menier-Fifrick (Bill) and their sister Jamie Ann Menier who thought of her as Granny; five grandchildren: Shera Thompson (Hayes), Tiffany Gates (Weston), Natasha Menier, John Leasiolagi (Dottie) and Thomas Lowman; five great grandchildren: Destiny, Maddison, Weston, Peyton and Julia, her mother-in-law Thelma Arnold as well as four siblings, uncles, cousins, her church family at Maple Grove Church of the Brethren and many others. After the birth of her first grandchild, she became known as “Granny” not only to her grandchildren but to numerous other children and adults who all loved her. The family thanks Charlie Ryder who traveled to NC to help the family care for her pets and visit Lucille while she was in rehab. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held Sat., Feb. 21, 2015 at 2 pm at Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, 2493 N NC Highway 150, Lexington, NC 27295 and will be followed by remembrance, fellowship and refreshments.
