Norma Sue Gibson Lanning, 72, of Robert Floyd Drive, died Thursday, December 15, 2011, at Hinkle Hospice House.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011, at Freedom Baptist Church, with Preacher Clyde Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Lanning was born February 1, 1939, in Cherokee County, S.C., to Hugh Elijah Gibson and Omie Leathers Gibson. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Odell Lanning Sr., who died November 9, 2007; and brothers, Ernest Gibson and Albert Gibson.
Surviving are her son, Bobby Lanning Jr. and wife, Liz Asbury, of Spencer; daughters, Deborah Anderson and husband, Billy, of Spartanburg, S.C., and Donna Myers and husband, Terry, of Lexington; 13 grandchildren, Shannon Surratt, Amanda Story and husband, Jon, Tiffni Berrier and husband, Brandon, Valerie York, Brandon Garrison and fiancé , Emily James, Bobby Lanning III and wife, Laura, Josh Myers and wife, Hannah, Jamie Lanning and friend, Phillip Hannah, Jason Anderson, Crystal Hughes and husband, Jimmy, Dawn Burns and husband, Jonathan, Crystal Asbury and fiancé, Bradley Gibbey, Tony Asbury and wife, Kendale; 17 great-grandchildren, Payton Story, Jake Story, Levi Berrier, Emli Berrier, Harley Lanning, Jeremiah York, Benjamin York, Alexis Luther, Alex Luther, Tori Burns, Emma Burns, Lilly Burns, Cameron Burns, Camiel Surratt, Treyton Anderson, Brenson Hughes, Andren Hughes; and sisters, Wanda Poe of Monroe, and Thelma Langley and husband, George, of Lexington; and her special friends and neighbors at Mt. Moriah Manor.
