Norman Edward Bailess 96 of Pickett Road passed away early Monday morning, June 6, 2016 at Hinkle Hospice House. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the National Cemetery at Salisbury with Military Honors.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel.
Norman was born on February 9, 1920 in the county of Pittsylvania, VA to Dotson Bailess and Margie Hatchett Bailess. He was a truck driver for Roadway Express and a member of Spruce Street Baptist Church, Lexington, NC. He also served in the US Army and was a Pearl Harbor survivor and fought in Central Pacific Theater for six years. He was awarded 2 bronze service stars and was a member of the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and sister-in-laws, Hubert (Jenny), Kermit (Dorothy), Melvin (Luese); two sisters, Ellen (Herman) and Lois.
Surviving is his wife of almost 67 years, Nell Stewart Bailess of the home; sons, Dennis Stuart Bailess, Norman Lynn Bailess (Ruth), Gary Edward Bailess; daughters, Kathy White, Teresa Maynard (David), Denese Hughs (Lonnie); six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred and Rubby.
Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel is assisting the family.
