Norman Eugene “Nugie” Essick, Jr, 61, of Friendship Church Road, died Tuesday, October 18 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston Salem. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, October 21, at Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Patrick Snow. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Mr. Essick was born March 9, 1950 in Davidson County to Norman Eugene Essick and Dot Kellette Essick. He was a graduate of West Davidson High School and the owner/operator of Essick Logging and was a certified NC Pro logger. He enjoyed traveling with his friends all across the United States, often in search of heavy machinery. His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his girlfriend, Reta McAlister; his brother, Clay Essick and wife, Tina, of Winston Salem; his sister, Julia Swicegood and husband, Webster, of Lexington; his nephews, Matthew Essick and William Essick of Winston Salem and John Swicegood and wife, Landace, of Lexington; and his niece, Meredith Swicegood Duffey and husband, Chris, of Lexington. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the donor’s choice.
